Road Trip!!!

For my birthday back in August my mom said she was going to take me to Columbus to visit the American Girl store. But we never went because we were so busy moving our quilt shop. Then the weather got bad.

But Sunday, the sun was shinning.  And my breathing was really good. So my mom asked me if I wanted to go on a road trip...

YES!!!

Before we pulled onto the freeway, we stopped to get a bagel and apple juice from Panera. It is our tradition.

Look how beautiful the sunset is. I asked my mom to take a picture.

We stopped at our favorite gas station near Mansfield. That's when I got my headphones out because my mom was listening to Christmas music and I can't take too much of that.

"Sarah, wake up! We are here." Ohhh...

ahhh...

It is so pretty down here. We are at Easton in Columbus, Ohio.

Oh this is really festive.

And then I heard my mom say, "Look Sarah, This is our hotel."  "Really?" We are staying at the Hilton. I think this is going to be really special. It is so big.

As soon as we pulled in there were people to help us.  This man was so nice. He put my wheelchair together for me and then helped me get in and quickly pushed me in the door.

This is Dimitar. He was super nice. I am putting my name in the box to win this American Girl doll.

Ahh...look, Dimitar took our picture.

Now here he is bringing our suitcases to us. My mom did not have to do a thing. She was happy about that.

When we got to the room, he took another picture of us. He used to work on the Carnival Cruise line and now he works for Hilton.

This is going to be a good night. The room is really nice.

After we got settled in, my mom said we could go for a walk. We found so many beautiful Christmas trees.  This one was in the ballroom. There was a guy in here taking tables down from a wedding the night before. He turned all the lights on for us. And then my mom took me over to the dance floor that was still set up and we started doing wheelchair dancing. We have so much fun!!

Welcome to my living room. Isn't it beautiful!! This hotel is huge but there is no one here tonight. Maybe because it is Sunday. It was like having a castle all to myself.

I was getting hungry so we went back to the room. Will you look at this. They had a channel that just played American Girl movies. I love Kit Kittredge, so I decided to watch this one.

This is fun.

Oh yea!! My dinner has arrived. I love ordering room service. Guess what I got? LOL!! Chicken fingers and french fries. And white milk. It was in a huge glass.

We are in a corner room so I can watch my movie and look out and see the action over at Easton.

Room service always comes with dessert. I got two chocolate chip cookies and my mom got creme brulee. She loves that.

Yep, what would a hotel stay be without a little breathing drama at three in the morning. We were prepared. My mom always brings the medical bag. Since we were up, we watched television for a few hours. Then we went back to sleep before we got dressed for our big day.

My mom says it is very important to thank the people who make our stay so much fun and to be extra generous during the holidays. So we left this for the people who will be cleaning our room.

OMG!!! I can't believe I am here. I have been dreaming about this for a long time.

I love the American Girl store. I have been collecting these dolls for a very long time.

I was looking all around at all the displays.

Oh look at this. I think this one is my mom's favorite...red hair, baby grand piano and a sparkly dress.

After I looked at everything, a salesclerk asked me if I had any questions. I asked her a question and she said she could tell I knew a lot about American Girls. So I started telling her about the ones I have. I told her every name and the year they represented. I even told her about the ones I have but I did not see them in the store because they are retired. Then she asked me how many I had. When I told her she said she thought I had more than anyone she knows. That's because my Grandma & Grandpa Hillick buy them for me every year.  They could not believe I have been collecting these for almost twenty years. While I was talking a bunch of people gathered around. Little kids and big people. They were all listening to my story. I looked over once at my mom and she was crying. That's because she was so proud of me! Then I told them all about the year I went to the store in Chicago with my Girl Scout Troop.  That was the best trip of my life.

Well after all that excitement, we had to get moving. But first a picture of this tree. It is really covered with so many big bulbs.

A lady followed us out of the store. She was telling my mom how awesome I am. That's weird. I didn't even know her. Then she asked to take our picture on her phone. My mom joked that I have paparazzi following me. Then she offered to take our picture on my mom's camera.

My mom asked me to stand still while she crossed the street to take my picture with the store behind me. And that's when I saw it...

Build-a-Bear!!! My second favorite store. You will never believe it. They have Olaf from Frozen!!

This is new. I get to scan it myself to add things. Like music.

Then it's time to stuff.

Oh I love it. Me and Olaf. I am going to take him with me to Disney on Ice when we go.

Checking out now.  Do you see that purple bear? Guess who that is for?

That was so much fun. This is a good shopping location.

And it was a perfect day. Just a little cold, but no snow.

My mom told me I could wait on this bench and she would go get the car. Did you notice I did not use my wheelchair all morning. And now my feet are killing me.

We rushed back to the hotel because we have to get going. Look who was back this morning. Dimitar. He is from the country of Macedonia. But now he lives in Columbus with his wife. He was so nice and made me feel like a Princess! Thank you Dimitar!!

Well it's time to get on the road and head back to Cleveland. Look who is riding with me.

We were making good time, so my mom said we could stop for lunch. I had three choices. I picked Burger King. I get a Whopper Jr. with cheese and a white milk.

No trip would be complete without a stop at our favorite rest stop on I-271.  It is always spotless.

Wow look at this. We had to get from Columbus to Mentor for my music therapy at 3:30. My mom timed it just perfect.

I even have a few minutes to call Grandma. She is in the hospital.

I love music therapy. I love Bonnie too. She is the best. Today I am playing the drums.

After music, the weather was so nice we decided to go for our annual trip to Kirtland.

I love this little school house...

...and inside where all the Nativity sets are.

and look at this. It was a surprise to see the missionaries that I know.

While we were driving down the highway to go home, I told my mom I wanted to go see my Grandma because I miss her. When we got to her room she told me her ears were cold. So I took off my headband and put it on her head. She liked that. That made me happy.

It was such a perfect weekend. The end.

Hi Sarah! Kit Kittredge is my favorite American Girl too, because we both love to write. That movie is my favorite, too. I hate it when her friends have to move away though.

How cool that Build-a-Bear has Olaf now! He is also my favorite. I only have a pig from Build-a-Bear that I made about 14 years ago, but I am definitely going to have to get me an Olaf of my own! He's so cute.

Please tell your grandma I hope she is feeling better and gets out of the hospital soon!

Katrina Morriss My 7 year old daughter just said "Oh mom, look at the beautiful girl." I said "Oh, yes the ballerina is very pretty." My daughter loves ballerina's and I was scrolling through fast but she said "No, not her, the real girl standing next to her with the flower cap" Then we had to go through all the pictures of Sarah. Her next favorite one was the one with the Sister missionaries. We have them over for dinner once a month so my daughter is very found of them. They change so often she doesn't remember names or faces. Just that they wear name tags. So my daughter is a Sarah fan now too
