Quilt Market 2014

I'm heading off for another road trip. This time I am going to Quilt Market in Pittsburgh.

Look at this, I have my own buyer's badge this year. That means I get to buy fabric for our store.

We had to stop to get our favorite bagel before we left town. It's like a tradition when my mom and I travel.

Once we were in Pennsylvania I spotted a rest stop...

...and it was a good thing we stopped because a little bit later we were in a traffic jam. Again. Everywhere we go there is road construction.

Finally. There's Pittsburgh.

"MOM, Look. There is the catsup building."

Wow!! This is a really big hotel we are staying in. It is the Westin. It is connected to the convention center so we never have to go outside.  That should help me breath better.

When we first checked in they told us our room was on the 23rd floor. My mom was like, "Oh do you have anything lower. My daughter and I are kinda afraid of height." So they put us on floor five. It has a pretty nice view.

After we got our suitcases put away we walked over to check out quilt market. Can you see it behind me?

Here we go. I get to ride in my transport chair because this place is soooooooooo BIG!

Our first stop was to find our friend Jill Finley of Jillily Studio. She was stranded in the airport and did not get here until three in the morning. She is so nice. I have to say hi to her son. "Hi JoJo."  He is back in Utah.

Jill's sister took this picture of all three of us. My mom talks to Jill on facebook all the time. They are friends.

Next we had to find the quilt made with Kate Spain's new collection called Horizon. We LOVE it!!! Especially my mom loves the purple in it.  Here's Moda Mark. He always is around with the new fabric.

And look here is Barb. or is this Mary? I always get those two sisters mixed up. They are both so funny.

Do you know why I am laughing?  Because my mom just told me we are going to go to the store to buy this button rug. I think that is so funny. How cute is this booth? It belongs to another mother/daughter team, Lauren and Jessi Jung.

Look who we ran into. It is my friend Jennifer Keltner. She used to be the Executive Editor of American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine when she came to our store. But now she has a new job as the Chief Visionary Officer at Martingale. They publish quilt books.

Look at this view. We are right on the river.

The elevator is all glass. That is just a little bit scary to me. Good thing we only had to go up one floor.

Now look at this...we ordered room service. Just like on Home Alone.

I got a surprise. Two big chocolate chip cookies. They were still warm. Yum!!

Then it was time for bed. Do you see my shirt. I was wearing it all day and now I have to sleep in it. Why you ask? Because my mom forgot to pack our pajamas. I told her that was ok.

I'm getting spoiled!! Room service again for breakfast.

This bacon is really good!!!

We are at quilt market bright and early. There is no one here yet.

Here is Barb again. or is this Mary. One of them is Me and One of them is My Sister. No not my sister. They are each other's sister.  I love them both. They are so nice to me.

So this was pretty amazing. One of our customers made me this really cute bag. And here is the woman who designed the pattern. She was really excited to see me with it. Thank you Cathy for making it for me.

Here I am with Emily Herrick. She is a fabric designer and she follows my blog. Hi Emily!!!! Thank you for the fabric bundle.

Do you see that deer behind us? I told her we have deer in our backyard all the time, but they are never covered in fabric.  Sometimes there are really funny things here.

Oh how do you like my shoes? Everyone was talking about them. They wanted them, but I would not take them off...

...even when they tried to bribe me with chocolate.

Ahhh...look at me and my mom.  She says I am such a celebrity at quilt market she wants a picture with me.

We are in the elevator. My mom was hugging a man she did not know. I've never seen her do that before. He told us that he and his wife lost their baby a few months ago. She died before she was born and they knew that she had Down syndrome just like me. He told me I was beautiful and my mom could tell he was really sad.

We came back to the hotel to eat lunch in the restaurant. It was so cold in there I was freezing.  But then I had a plan...yep we had room service again.

After lunch we went back over to the market. Will you look at this color wall. That is all fabric by Michael Miller. I love it!!! I told the salesman I want one of each please. My mom told him not all at once please. So it is coming in different boxes.

Here I am with Patty Sloniger. I love her new fabrics called Emma's Garden. I ordered this fabric too.

And then I ordered all of this too. That's when my mom said she better get me away from the Michael Miller booth before we go broke.  Haha! That's what happens when you give me a buyer's badge.

Then I spotted this and told her we need this for the wall by our new door. Guess what she said? "Sarah, that is a brilliant idea. It will be perfect!"  So we ordered that too.

Now look at what I spotted. A quilt with OHIO on it. I like it too.

Then my mom was talking, talking, talking. And so guess what I did? I fell asleep sitting in my chair. Until she started pushing me again,

then I found this quilt. How cool is it? Very cool.

It was getting late so my mom said it was time to go home. I was a little sad. I love quilt market.

As soon as we got on the road, I was asleep again.  I can't wait until market next year. It is in Minneapolis so we will have to fly in an airplane.

It was so nice to meet you Sarah! I sometimes wear my day clothes to bed, too, but I don't have a good excuse like my mom forgetting to pack them! I really enjoyed reading about your trip to Market, sounds like you had a great time. Hope to see you at the next one! :)
