We stopped at Panera to get a bagel before we left. Then my mom wanted to get the car washed. So that's where I ate my bagel.
We were traveling along and then the traffic started to stop.
"Mom, don't get too close. There's cement in that truck."
Finally the traffic started moving, but then I had to go to the bathroom because we were in the car for so long. So we stopped at this rest stop. It is a really nice one.
Now it was late in the afternoon, so the sun was on my side. We have a really good way for taking care of that problem. Do you see me? My mom holds the top of the quilt outside and I push the button to make the window go up.
And then, I don't have any sun in my eyes.
We have to go through Columbus to get to Cincinnati, so we stopped at Ohio State. My mom wanted to take a picture of me in front of Stillman Hall.
I have been to this building a few times. It is where the college of Social Work is located.
Time to get back on the road. Look at my quilt. It is a hanging perfectly down the door.
You will never believe this, but my mom took me to Target to see this fabric display. I bought some. She said this is the only Target in Ohio that sells fabric.
Finally, we have arrived at the hotel. I have my own bed!!
and look a kitchen too! I am pretending I am making chocolate chip cookies.
I was so excited to see Stacy I got up really early. But then I got scared coming down these steps so I froze in the middle and my mom had to come up and get me.
Wow, it is really hot out here.
I was watching the little kiddos on the playground. We had to wait for them to go back inside before we went in to the school.
Finally!!! It was time to go in. This looks like a very nice school.
Stacy came down to get us. Then when we got to her classroom she let me sit up front with her.
We were counting with the class.
Then it was time for the calendar.
Stacy asked me to come help. But I did not know what to do with this board. It is new to me.
So she showed my how to drag the box over with my finger. This is really cool. I wish they had this board when I was in school.
Next I asked the class what picture they wanted for the day.
Once calendar time was up, Stacy brought some pictures of the two of us over to share with the class. It was so cute. They loved them. One was when we were really little and one was when we were wearing tutus for my birthday party.
Next we played Disney Uno. That was a game Stacy and I used to play when we were little. It really helped me learn to match colors. I think the kids really liked it.
Ahh this is so sweet. It was activity time and this little girl wanted to use the classroom iPad. So I got mine out too and then she wanted to come sit next to me at my table. We both have Down syndrome.
Shhhh....I have to sit here really quiet with the lights off. I am not supposed to be here right now. They are having a tornado drill so everyone is in the closet in the hall but there's not a lot of room in there so we stayed in here. If it was a real tornado I would have to go into that closet too though.
Well it was time for me to leave. Stacy walked me to the office to sign out. I am so proud of my best friend. She is a really amazing special education teacher. Her class is really lucky to have her.
Oh my goodness look at this. It is 87 degrees. That is really hot. And why I am having so much trouble breathing.
We were thinking of staying to see some quilt shops but my mom decided we better get on the road and head back home. But then I really could not breath so we had to make a stop along the way at a truck stop for a breathing treatment. Then I fell asleep.
Oh can you believe it. We are stuck in another traffic jam. This time the police car is blocking all the traffic and making us go 5 miles an hour.
And I was having trouble breathing again. So we decided we just needed to get to Columbus.
We got off the highway by the big hospital at Ohio State. But my mom was not sure I really needed to go there. So we checked into the hotel across the street. It is brand new and really nice.
I had a few breathing treatments and then I took a nap. I felt so much better when I woke up.
So we decided to go for a little ride to see Mirror Lake. Only it isn't a lake anymore. There is no water in it. We sent a text message to TJ to see if he knew why the lake was dry. He said they were doing some research.
Ahh...then we found the sign. We decided to leave there and drive through our old neighborhood. It was fun. Our old condo looks the same but the Kroger across the street looks all new.
Then we stopped for a snack at UDF.
Look this ice cream matches my shirt. It's not mine. I do not like ice cream. It is for my mom. I got apple juice and I have Goldfish in the car.
We had a good time but we were tired so we went back to the hotel and went to sleep.
Until midnight, when I woke up. I decided I was ready to go home. So I woke my mom up. At first she told me to go back to sleep. But then she said, "Sarah, I think this might be a really good idea." So we got everything packed up. It was still 79 degrees when we left Columbus.
But there was no traffic because all the truckers were sleeping in the rest stop.
I could not believe it when I heard the car shut off. We were home and I slept the entire trip.
The next morning my mom took me over to my Grandparent's. She wanted to show me that the new watercolor we hung on the wall in my bedroom is the same building I was standing in front of at Ohio State. Now that is pretty cool.
Now look at this. A few days later a big envelope arrived. Stacy's class made cards for me.
They are very good drawers. This is Cinderella and her carriage and horse.
And Tinkerbell. They really liked the Tinkerbell sound when they had a match while we played Uno.
They all did such a good job. It was such a perfect day getting to meet new friends with my best friend!!
