Felicidades Christy & Abel

This is a special edition. Last night I went to a wedding celebration.  It was for Christy and Abel.  They live in Managua, Nicaragua and got married there two weeks ago. Then they flew to Cleveland where Christy grew up so all her Ohio family and friends could celebrate.  My family got invited because Christy is Julie's sister. And Julie is going to be my sister when she marries TJ next year!!

As soon as my mom and I got to the Mayfield Club my brother was waiting for us at the door.  He told me he liked my dress.

I was seeing a lot of people I already knew.

Then I saw Christy and Abel.  They looked so happy.  I was not so happy about the camera flash.

Time for a picture with my mom.  Our dresses coordinate. I picked them out when we went to Macy's.  That is what was in the bags I was carrying last week.  The little bell is chiming which means it is time to find our seat for dinner.

I found my name.  Look I have a gold star.  I am a star.

It is time for a toast to the bride and groom.  I am sitting next to Grandpa Lafferty.  He is very nice to me and he is funny sometimes.

Time to drink.  They tried to give me champagne but I said, "No thank you."  So my mom poured me some water instead.

It is time for the pastor to say a few words. I liked what he said. That God loves all his children and there are no exceptions.  He also said that weddings bring family together.  I really like that.

While we were waiting for dinner, Julie was taking some pictures. I can't wait to see them.  She is a good photographer.

My dad was sitting next to Mr. Lafferty.  That is Christy and Julie's dad.

Oh look, a picture of TJ and Julie.  Everyone is really excited about their wedding next year.  They were cheering for them.  I was proud that TJ is my brother.

We took a little break after the salad to take a family picture.

And then we took one with the lady friends.  That is what my Grandma calls Julie and Jessica.

I got to meet some more relatives.  They were happy to see me because they saw me on television a few months ago when I was the Fox 8 Hometown Hero.

Haaaa, look at this.  TJ is entertaining the little kids.  They think he is funny.

Ahhh this is such a good picture of us.

The little girls wanted to hang out with Julie and me.  I liked that.

Then I saw my dad, so I had to give him a hug.  He is talking to another Lafferty guy. I am getting confused there are so many Lafferty men.

Look it is Jimmy.  Do you remember him?  He was my escort in our Senior Prom Fashion show.

Come on Dad. Christy and Abel are going to dance. I do not want to miss it.

They are dancing the Salsa!! They are really good.  Do you want to see?

Then it was time for everybody to dance.  I watched for a little bit and then Matt and Jessica asked me if I wanted to dance.  So I did...

This is Susie. She was teaching me some dance moves.  But then I got so tired, so I had to tell TJ, I was going to sit down.

Matt came out to sit with me. I have the best brothers in the whole world.

Jessica sat down and then Matt said he had his two favorite girls with him.  He's smooth like that.  A real ladies man. But, I was starting to gasp for air.

Good thing my mom came prepared.  She pulled out my puffer, a little bag and a wash cloth, just in case.  Jessica and Matt were a little sad for me, so they stayed with me.

Until Matt spotted my parents kissing and so he got up and took their picture.

I do not think I have ever seen my Mom and Dad so happy.  They were really having a good time.  I think they were so excited to be here and to see how much everyone in Julie's family loves TJ and me...

...and Matt.  This is Grandma Lafferty.  She loved Matt so much she pinched his cheek:)

It was just about time for me to go home, but first I had to get a picture with Amanda and Kyle.  Amanda Severn is Julie's good friend and she is going to be a bridesmaid just like me.  She is studying to be a dentist. Her boyfriend is Kyle.  He has a sister with Down syndrome just like me.  Her name is Sarah too.  We were in early intervention together a really long time ago.  The teacher called her Sarah Brewer and me Sarah Ely.  We might go to a movie together. All six of us. You know, Sarah, Sarah, Amanda and Kyle and TJ and Julie.

It is time for me to go, so I am waiting for the valet to get my car.  This was a really fun night.  I can't wait until next June 15th, when TJ and Julie get married and I get to see all these people again!! And next time I am going to stay until the very end.  I missed the Ohio State send off. And you know how much I love the Buckeyes. Darn.  But good thing my mom stayed and had some video to show me...

A Week in the Life of Me

July 8 - 14, 2012

My mom said we had to stop at the store even though it was Sunday.

"Mom, are you kidding me?" "Nope," she said. We have to move all these empty bolts to the car.

Maybe if I pretend I am asleep she won't make me move them.

That idea did not work so well. So I am moving them to the car.

"That's it mom," I said. No more will fit.  And just where am I suppose to sit?

In the front seat? "No, I hate the front seat," I said. My mom told me to buckle up.

Oh now I get it. We are bringing our used cardboard to the dumpsters.

I like that. We are recycling.  That is a good thing.  When we were all done, my mom said we had to go get some hooks for the store.

OMG!! We are at Walmart.  My mom does not usually like coming here. But I love the wheelchair carts.  So I got in one.  And then my mom and I started getting all crazy, goofy. It was really empty in here so we started racing down the aisle. My mom pushed really fast and I tried to grab whatever I could.  We were being so silly.  My mom said we were celebrating life today because one of our little blogging friends died yesterday from respiratory issues after his open heart surgery.  Sweet dreams Ryan.

After I got all my favorite snacks, I saw this pattern in the sewing department. I think this will be a really good thing to make for my chair.

Then I got a hold of the camera.  I wanted to take some pictures of us.  Wow I have a long neck.  You can see one of my scars if you look closer.  That was when they tried to split my cricoid because I had subglotic stenosis. But it did not work, so I ended up with a trach.

We were being so silly.

Really, really silly.  I was having so much fun.  Then we left to go to another store.

When we got into the car it was 101.  That is really super hot and it makes me have trouble breathing.

So my mom said she had another idea.  We went to a different Macy's where the car could be parked in a garage so it would not be so hot.  Still I decided I wanted to ride in my chair.

Look at this.  When we got to the door I could not push the button because it was behind the garbage can.  That is not good.

It was easier for me to reach on the way out.

Look, I found a few things I like. I will show you later.  Then my mom said we had one more place to go.

We came to the grocery store to buy red and green candy.  We are getting ready for the Christmas in July Shop Hop in our store. It will be fun.  We will play Christmas music.
